From next year if you purchase a brand new vehicle in the UK it will come equipped with several sensors and detectors which will monitor your eyes, breath, sweat and attention to the road.
From the moment you enter your vehicle you will be monitored. Your pupils and eye movements will be analysed, your steering wheel will assess the drug and alcohol content in your sweat and your breath will be given the same treatment.
LIMP MODE
If nothing is detected then you will be free to drive on your way but monitoring will continue. If you use your phone while the vehicle is moving the vehicle will go into limp mode and direct you to the nearest stopping point where you will be informed you have received points on your license, you will also be shown an instructional video of the dangers involved in using phones while driving.
If alcohol or drugs are detected when you attempt to move off the vehicle will shut down but this time the doors will lock and you will need to wait for police officers to arrive to conduct their own tests.
The technology will add around £2500.00 new vehicle purchases which vehicle manufacturers say may hurt UK vehicle sales in the short term.
The government is asking for tech developers to find a way for the same technology to be added to older vehicles and tractors. The goal is to make it a condition to have the devices installed to pass an MOT.
Newsishy will keep you posted on any developments.
