The Tobacco Industry was extremely good at selling a life destroying product.
Gambling companies are stepping up their advertising game. This comes as the world sees a greater reliance on sponsorship with some countries openly stating that without sponsorship from these huge companies their entire sports leagues would collapse.
The issue of course is that gambling destroys lives and without fresh customers/victims the gambling companies profits drastically reduce. This is because in the end everyone will lose everything if they play for long enough.
ON THE OFFENSIVE
Savvy gambling companies realised the tobacco industry went through a similar issue when their best customers started to fall ill and die. They went on the offensive and hired doctors to smoke in adverts and tell you it’s not only perfectly safe but it would improve your health in a number of ways.
Newsishy spoke to head of customer acquisition for 1moreonlinebettingsite.com Terisa Lyon:
“We are under no illusions, we know that a small percentage of people will realise they can’t win early on, they are factored in, then there are the the customers who really believe they can win even after repeated losses, they are important as they are prime for addiction and then there are the addicts, our bread and butter, those poor bastards will re-mortgage their mothers house and then steal from their purse to place another bet.
The tobacco industry successfully increased sales even in the face of overwhelming evidence that they were killing people, now that’s marketing! They would have continued to do just that if it wasn’t for a global effort to legally ban their advertising and their product. That’s what effectively destroyed them.
RELIANT ON OUR MONEY
We don’t have that issue, we are embedded in almost every government worldwide, nations are so reliant on our money they simply can’t afford to legislate against us and even if they wanted to it would never pass.”
So what’s the plan?
“We keep pushing, we keep telling people we are adding ‘protection’ to our websites and apps, we continue to send free bet offers when we notice someone has a problem, we will add our logo to every single sports kit from little league upwards and we will continue to saturate every tv and radio station with adverts.”
Thank you, that sounds terrible.
