In a shock ruling the US supreme court has ordered all manufacturers of peanut butter in the US to immediately stop using any peanuts in the process and also the word butter in any labels and advertising.
Deceives the American consumer
In the official syllabus it states “Butter comes from milk and cows to not produce peanuts, therefore we find the concept a falsehood which deceives the American consumer and we will not allow American companies to participate in selling a lie”
The National Peanut Board released a statement saying “This will devastate a 2.8 Billion dollar industry overnight losing hundreds of thousands of jobs and hundreds of millions in tax revenue for the United States. It makes no sense.”
The ruling only applies to manufacturers in the US.
A spokesperson for the supreme court said “This ruling has nothing at all to do with the fact that 5 of the justices have recently invested in a massive 5 mile square peanut butter plant in Canada. To suggest a connection is quite frankly insulting”
