There are calls to withdraw a new children’s e-bike from shelves that can reach speeds of 140mph straight out of the box.
Selling for £49.99, the small Chinese built e-bike which only has a front brake, no lights and goes from 0-60 in 4 seconds has been selling out across the UK with 60,000 units sold already
Falsely labelled
Trading standards released a statement claiming exporters had initially falsely labelled the boxes and export licences of the bike as 14mph for the 1st first few shipped so they were cleared which then allowed thousands of units being shipped with the correct speed of 140mph labels.
Police are visiting shops trying to confiscate any bikes not yet sold and said they are following the situation but not the kids on bikes as they can’t catch them
